Abuse (physical, sexual, emotional, spiritual)

Experiencing abuse can have a lasting impact on a person’s sense of safety, trust, self-worth and relationships. Whether the experience was recent or happened many years ago, its effects can continue to influence emotional wellbeing, confidence and everyday life.

Abuse can take many forms, including physical, sexual, emotional and spiritual abuse. It may occur within intimate relationships, families, workplaces, communities or other environments where a person should feel safe. Every person’s experience is different, and there is no single way to respond to or recover from abuse.

Counselling provides an opportunity to talk about your experiences at your own pace and in a way that feels right for you. There is no expectation that you need to share everything at once or revisit experiences before you feel ready. The focus is on creating a supportive environment where you can feel heard, respected and understood without judgement.

You do not have to minimise what happened to you, justify your experience or have all the answers before seeking support.

Our aim is to support you in developing greater self-understanding, self-compassion and resilience, while working towards a stronger sense of safety and wellbeing.
